Netflix’s “The Crown”: This Shocking Event Won’t Appear in the Series

Queen Elizabeth II ruled Britain for 70 years – longer than any other monarch in British history. She died in September 2022, handing over the throne to her son Prince Charles. The Queen has turned 96 – and has seen a lot in her life…

Exactly this life is shown in the popular and award-winning Netflix series “The Crown” – more or less natural. Because the series is fiction, not a documentary like the creators of the production have to re-emphasize every season. That certain events in the lives of the royals are not shown is not entirely new.

However, the sixth season of The Crown (which is currently in the works) will miss a major catastrophe that shook the life of the British monarchy to the core: the car accident that resulted in the death of Lady Diana.

This is what Lady Diana’s death should look like in the sixth season of “The Crown”.

Lady Diana was in Paris in August 1997, about a year after the divorce from heir apparent Charles, with her new love, Dodi Al-Fayed. The two died in a serious car accident in the tunnel under the Place de l’Alma. While Al-Fayed was killed instantly, the as Diana was also mentioned a few hours later from her injuries. In “The Crown” these scenes are not allowed to be seen.

According to a statement from Netflix in the British newspaper The Sun, the streaming service will approach the accident differently. It literally says, “The exact moment of impact is not shown”.. As insiders have explained to Deadline, the death of then-Prince (and now King) Charles’ ex-wife will still be a central theme of the season. It is said that the chronology of events will be maintained. And apparently the accident was not really avoided…

According to Deadline, the car with Diana and Al-Fayed is shown leaving a hotel and followed by paparazzi. Then it must go straight to the consequences of the disaster: the British ambassador in Paris will contact the Foreign Office and the consequences of the accident will be discussed. What this will all look like, we will probably not know until the sixth season has ended.

That’s what season 5 of “The Crown” on Netflix is about

The sixth season of The Crown will be available on Netflix at the end of 2023 at the earliest. Until then, however, viewers do not have to wait for new stories about the British royal family. The fifth season of the series will run on the streaming service from November 9, 2022 and must also be very exciting.

The troubled marriage between Lady Diana (Elizabeth Debicki) and Charles (Dominic West) is central to the series. But not only the heir to the throne divorced his wife. Prince Andrew (James Murray) and Princess Anne (Claudia Harrison), two other children of Queen Elizabeth, have also been separated from their partners. Diana and Charles’ children William (Senan West) and Harry also become teenagers.
