Can it get any more epic? The answer is yes! After “Dune” received the top rating of five stars at FILMSTARTS, we are looking forward to it theatrical release of “Dune: part twoon February 29, 2024. The new trailer really increases the anticipation for the blockbuster. And Denis Villeneuve himself has already contributed to why sci-fi fans from all over the world are looking forward to the sequel: the director himself even thinks “Dune 2” is “much better” than the first part…

…and that is saying something, because “Dune” was not only celebrated exuberantly by us. It remains to be seen whether Villeneuve will ultimately be proven right in terms of quality. It is already clear that “Dune 2” certainly beats the first “Dune” in one respect…

Sci-fi epic with an epic runtime

Such as the website, among other things has discovered, “Dune: Part Two” will be a whopping 166 minutes (i.e. 2 hours and 46 minutes). – and therefore a whole ten minutes longer than the first film. Anyone who is already looking forward to the sequel to the adaptation of Frank Herbert’s groundbreaking classic novel can once again look forward to a particularly extensive detour to the desert planet.

With the running time, Dennis Villeneuve also sets a new personal record, as the sequel to “Dune” will be the longest work in the Canadian filmmaker’s career to date, after highlights such as “Prisoners”, “Sicario” and “Arrival”, even if its previous leader was only just eclipsed: the masterful sci-fi sequel “Blade Runner 2049” ran a whopping 164 minutes.

Will there be “Dune 3” after “Dune 2”?

‘Dune: Part Two’ now adapts the second half of Frank Herbert’s first ‘Desert Planet’ novel, in which hero Paul Atreidis (Timothée Chalamet), who has found refuge with the Fremen on Arrakis, prepares for an inevitable war together with them Harkonnen prepared to kill his father…

But even if the plot of the book is completely covered, the end of the story may not have been reached yet. In any case, Denis Villeneuve has revealed that he is already working on a scripted version of Herbert’s follow-up novel “The Lord of the Desert Planet” (original: “Dune: Messiah”). Whether ‘Dune 3: Messiah’ actually comes will depend mainly on the success of the second part, to which he can actively contribute next year.
