It cannot be said for sure whether Lyss BE has the most beautiful Christmas lights in Switzerland. Tastes differ, and some readers from the Blick community have stepped forward to let their detailed and beautiful light shine during Advent.

Blick became aware of Antonio and Alice Penissi of Lyss through their son Sandro. He registered his parents’ Christmas lights without their knowledge. «Every year, my father spends the whole of November decorating his house. “I think you can also see the light coming from the moon,” he says, laughing. A Christmas enthusiast tour is held in the Pennisis garden and the retired couple give the children bags full of nuts, chocolates and anything else that will make children’s hearts beat faster.

With new ideas and elements every year

Father Antonio Pennisi is pleased with Blick’s surprise call and the visit that followed. “I make these Christmas lights just because I like them,” says the native Italian. The retired engineer is responsible for installing LED lights and arranging the figures in the garden and at home.

From the first of Christmas until midnight every evening until January 6, snowmen, reindeer on sleighs and stars shine in the settlement of Lyss. Over the years, Antonio Pennisi repeatedly purchased new elements and decorated slightly differently each year. Besides the illuminated olive trees, Pennisis even turned the umbrella into a Christmas tree with fir branches, ornaments and lights. Also new this year are backlit figures with Christmas motifs in the car shelter.

Neighbors are already waiting impatiently

Alice Pennisi pre-filled small bags for neighborhood children that the couple gave as gifts. “Families with children and even the elderly love to visit and enjoy us every year during Advent,” she says.

The couple does not want to give up this beautiful tradition despite the increase in electricity prices. “We accept this and with LED lights consumption is kept to a minimum,” says Alice Pennisi. And so the Pennisi couple on Sandböschenweg are once again making children’s eyes shine and looking forward to welcoming visitors, young and old, to their bright little Christmas paradise during Advent.
