In ‘Wonder Woman 1984’, ‘Star Wars’ star Pedro Pascal appeared in a blonde wig as the evil businessman Maxwell Lord. But now the character is being recast – after all, James Gunn and Peter Safran will completely overhaul and rebuild the DC Universe with new stars and stories. The starting signal for this is ‘Superman: Legacy’, which will be released in cinemas on July 10, 2025. David Corenswet takes over from former Superman actor Henry Cavill.
But it’s not just the Man of Steel who gets a new face. How reports, will be an MCU star Sean Gunn (“Guardians Of The Galaxy”) will take on the role of Maxwell Lord, previously played by Pedro Pascal. Lord should at least be mentioned in ‘Superman: Legacy’, perhaps even make a brief appearance, but mainly play a role in future DC projects.
James Gunn, who previously directed the ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ films for Marvel, continues the tradition of bringing his brother Sean Gunn on board his projects as often as possible. Sean Gunn played Ravager Kraglin in the Guardians adventures.
The new DCU will be divided into phases, called chapters, based on the model of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “Superman: Legacy” kicks off its first chapter, “Gods And Monsters: Chapter One.” Like Maxwell Lord, it should be loud We’ll also be dealing with a few other characters who only appear in the “Superman” movie, but who later get bigger roles.
Sean Gunn’s Maxwell Lord is in good company
A lot of characters have already been announced for “Superman: Legacy,” but if some of them actually only appear briefly, it should reassure all those fans who fear that the superhero adventure could become overloaded. Expect performances from Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardener / Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho and many more.
Of course, the big stage is among the usual suspects in the Superman universe: Clark Kent, aka Superman, is along David Corenswet played as Lois Lane by “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” star Rachel Brosnahan, while Nicholas Hoult (“X-Men: First Decision”) takes on the role of Lex Luthor.
