After 25 Years, ‘The

In “The Opposing FBI agents Mulder and Scully also investigated in two films. They have now proven on the internet that fans of the series about conspiracy theories and unexplained phenomena are excellent researchers themselves.

What happened?

Let’s start in order. On December 5, 2023, an American woman with the handle @laurenancona wrote on the short-messaging service X (long known as Twitter) that she had just had the “strangest experience.” She was watching an old episode of “X-Files” from 1998 – and there was a song in it that she couldn’t get out of her ears. They had to know what kind of song it was – and so a search began…

Because, as the Quickly used the Shazam service, specialized in caller ID: no results!

So she started searching the Internet based on the lyrics of the song and then the specific episode and discovered: She’s not alone in her search. Elsewhere on the internet, people were already wondering what the song was called.

Fans of ‘The X-Files’ have been looking for a song for 25 years

People say on the discussion platform Reddit They have been looking for the number since the episode aired in 1998. There is a video on YouTube in which the song has been searched for months without success.

Only in 2022 did someone take the opportunity to post their own reviews on the world’s largest film and series database IMDb to place a call to solve the puzzle, which is already more than twenty years old.

So here we are dealing with a real ‘X-Files’ mystery that has been bothering fans for ages. So what to do? As you can imagine, the

She also published an excerpt of the scene

And sometimes Platform Many users took part in the search. With more than 100,000 likes and almost 20,000 retweets, the search has become increasingly widespread. At the time of writing, the original post has been viewed more than 18.5 million times.

People contributed ideas on how to find the song, while the community also wondered why this song seemed like such a catchy tune that many people wanted to know what it was called and who wrote it. .

Naturally, the search first led the Internet community to the people listed in the episode’s credits – the name Jeff Charbonneau in particular attracted attention. Because his role is “Music Editor”. He should be able to help.

Inquire with the music editor? Without success!

People even managed to locate him, but at first they were unable to help. He couldn’t remember the song at all (so it doesn’t have catchy melodic qualities for everyone). However, he is certain that it was not written specifically for the series (as many speculated), but that the usage rights were purchased from a music library.

Even a series employee couldn’t help himself and didn’t know what to do next. Jeff Charbonneau gave it his all. He even looked through his old documents, but found no reference to the mysterious song.

But then salvation came. Someone (don’t ask us how) was able to find the so-called cue sheet for the episode, which even Jeff Charbonneau no longer had. Musical pieces used, for example, in a series episode, are included in such sheets – mainly to ensure later that the copyrights are managed correctly and the corresponding fees are paid to the rights holders.

With this new information, Senior Investigator @laurenancona wanted to purchase and rewatch the episode. use the exclusion principle to figure out which piece of music on the cue sheet is played in which sceneto then see which one is left at the end and therefore is what you are looking for.

The Internet community watched as she narrowed the search down to two options, and then came the answer from another user:

After 20 hours there is the solution!

The song you are looking for is called “Staring At The Stars”. It was written and sung by Glenn Jordan and Dan Marfisi – contrary to Jeff Charbonneau’s assumption, the piece was created specifically for the series.

The joint search of numerous fans of the cult series lasted about 20 hours.

The beautiful story is not over yet. Of course, Glenn Jordan and Dan Marfisi were quickly located. They were very happy that so many people were suddenly interested in a 25-year-old song. They could even tell you how the song came about. But there was also a problem…

Because now a search for her began. They didn’t know if they still had the song. So the two musicians rummaged through their archives – and were ultimately successful.

New problem: who has a CD player these days?

Glenn Jordan found an old CD backup with “Staring At The Stars” on it. Then the musicians had to buy a CD player to even get their own song. But that has now been achieved, as Dan Marfisi was able to announce – on X of course:

“Staring At The Stars” will be uploaded to the Internet soon.

For many “X-Files” fans, the search for a song ends after 25 years. Mulder and Scully should also be impressed by this hard work. They couldn’t have solved this case any faster (Mulder in particular would have spent a few hours theorizing about whether an alien was involved in the production of the song and therefore there is no information about its origin because that is hidden had to stay).
