When Final Destination hit theaters in 2000, director James Wong (“The One”) or anyone else probably wouldn’t have guessed that post-millennial death-will-take-you-horror would become one of the biggest brands in the genre — Movies would count. In 2011, the series had five orgies that grossed a whopping $666 million. Kind of appropriate. In home theater, however, the mega-popular splatter saga has been criminally neglected.
The first Blu-ray edition of “Final Destination” has been out of print for years, and a few sequels followed suit – both on DVD and Blu-ray. Fans of the entertaining battle records had to switch to alternatives, such as offers on the third market or the still available Mediabook Collection, which costs a whopping 189.99 euros. But now Rental Warner is finally doing the right thing!

“Final Destination 1-5” will be released on December 1, 2022 as an unabridged complete box set on DVD and Blu-ray – for the first time at an affordable price. The DVD version is already available for 25.99 euros, the HD version on Blu-ray is only slightly more expensive at 31.99 euros.

“Final Destination”: When Death Haunts You
In short, the plot of “Final Destination” can be quickly summed up – and that of all movies. Because each of them revolves around a person who sees a disaster before it happens. In this way she manages – at least for the time being – to save a group of people. But once death has you on its list, there’s no escaping it.
It starts with a plane crash in the first movie, followed by a massive highway crash in Final Destination 2, a derailed roller coaster in Final Destination 3, and a NASCAR car racing disaster in Final Destination 4, and finally from a collapsing bridge in Final Destination. 5.
Sure, some characters, like the surviving Clear Rivers (Ali Larter) or Tony Todd’s ominous William Bludworth, who always stands by the potential victims with advice and action and creates a lot of chilling atmosphere, return time and time again. However, the complexity of the content of the series is limited. In addition to the many Easter eggs and cross-references between the films, it is mainly about one thing: people who bite the dust in the most creative way.
Friends of the currently so popular arthouse horror (from “It Follows” to “Hereditary”) wouldn’t get their money’s worth here. But if you like to use genre fare to turn your head off and have no problem with gallons of blood, severed limbs and guts, get the “Final Destination” collection A total of nine hours of splatter horror, which, if only for the countless creative kills, is incredibly entertaining – and always makes you happy.
By the way: After a few years ago there was already a discussion about “Final Destination 6”, before it finally came to nothing, work on a sixth film has started again. Also on board is “Spider-Man: No Way Home” creator Jon Watts, who probably wants to deviate a bit from the well-known formula with the film. It remains to be seen whether the project will eventually be implemented…
