Everyone who owns property needs liability insurance. One example makes this clear: A tenant falls heavily on the completely icy private road leading to his apartment building and ends up in a wheelchair. This could cost millions!

In case of snowfall

If it snows overnight in winter, it is the homeowner’s duty to ensure that their private driveways and building entrances are clear. If third parties are injured on the property because the entrance to the home is not kept clear of snow and ice, the property owner can usually be assumed to be at fault. If you live at home yourself, your personal liability will cover any demands. Otherwise, building liability insurance comes into play.

Snow removal cannot be transferred to tenants

Even in rental properties, snow removal obligations cannot be delegated to tenants. The situation is different in rented detached houses. Removing ice and snow is usually the tenant’s responsibility.

Anyone living in their own home can benefit well from private liability insurance in most cases. This also covers property-related damage. Things look different in rental properties. It is recommended that the homeowner have premises liability insurance. This usually covers damages of up to 5 million francs.

Premises liability insurance is also recommended for holiday home owners if the house is rented out to guests. The same applies to condominium owners who jointly own green areas, paths, stairs and a garage.

Premiums for private liability insurance vary over a wide price range. Product and price comparisons are definitely worth it.
