As in the past, Netflix is going all out to publish plenty of contemplative content in the run-up to Christmas to really get its subscribers into the holiday spirit. However, there will also be dark tones on the streaming service over the next seven days: while things get scary in “Insidious 5: The Red Door”, Ethan Hawke and Julia Roberts look forward to the end of the world in “Leave The World Behind”. ..
…and let’s get straight to the point: Here are the new film and series highlights of the week of December 4 to 10 on Netflix:
Monday: Fairy dust for the little ones
Early this week, Netflix will release the second season of the animated children’s series ‘The Dewdrop Diaries’. This is all about fairies who are very real, but don’t show themselves to people. Nevertheless, they are responsible for unknowingly helping them in their daily lives – and thus earn their wings. In the second season, the mythical creatures must once again master a host of tasks to prove themselves as invisible guardian angels.
Tuesday: Stand-up comedy
Fans of rhetorically playful stage entertainment can look forward to the comedy special “Stavros Halkias: Fat Rascal” and perhaps discover a comedian they haven’t even seen before.
Wednesday: Horror blockbusters and Christmas magic
Of “Treacherous 5“, subtitled “The Red Door”, a real horror blockbuster starts today on Netflix – just over six months after the film hit the cinemas. Here Patrick Wilson not only takes the lead role, but is also responsible for directing. Once again, the Lambert family is haunted by demonic forces in the latest installment of the horror series. In this case, it’s a figure the family knows all too well and actually thought they had finally pushed away.
Plus, it’s Christmas on Netflix on Wednesday – in Norwegian! In “Christmas with a differenceThea (Ida Ursin-Holm) returns to her rural home to celebrate Christmas in the classic Norwegian way. But this year she brings along Jashan (Kanan Gill), her Indian-born fiancé, who doesn’t yet know her conservative family. Turbulent but also heartwarming holidays are coming up.
Thursday: India’s answer to Riverdale
Yes, “Riverdale“ has ended after seven seasons, which many fans certainly had to accept with a tear in their eye. But there is supply, even if it is not in the form that many people think. With ‘The Archies’ we can expect an Indian musical that moves the town of Riverdale to India and takes place there in the 1960s.
The first season also starts today”Me and the Walter Boys“, “The Second World War: from the front“, the third season”Hilda‘ and the second season of ‘I hate Christmas“.
Friday: End times atmosphere with superstars
In Sam Esmail’s “Leaving the world behindA blackout paralyzes all of New York. At least that’s what Ruth and George Washington (Myha’la Herrol and Mahershala Ali) explain to Amanda here (Julia Roberts) and her husband Clay (Ethan Hawke), who go on holiday in a remote holiday home in the countryside. Are Ruth and George really telling the truth? Even in rural areas, telephones, televisions and internet no longer work. Mutual distrust then continues to grow – and events come to a head.
Saturday and Sunday: Dead pants!
