Germans broke a world record: This couple lives under one roof with 555 Christmas trees

For some people, the Christmas tree doesn’t belong in the living room until December 24th. Thomas (57) and Susanne Jeromin (56) from Lower Saxony start decorating much earlier: the first plastic fir trees are planted in June. After all, there is not just one copy of the pair, but 555 copies. For this, they were rewarded with a new world record by the German Recording Institute (RID) on Thursday.

The couple had already broken a record. Two years ago, 444 Christmas trees decorated his house. “We expanded and now there are 89 trees in the new room alone,” Susanne Jeromin told German news agency DPA.

108,000 Christmas balls

The chef has been passionately collecting Christmas trees for twelve years. Meanwhile, his wife is also burning. “After the morning shift, we decorate from 3pm until the evening, even on weekends,” says the geriatric nurse.

There are more than just ornaments hanging on countless Christmas trees, but they number around 108,000. The couple also sets up themed trees: with stuffed animals and rubber duckies, for example. Also, according to “Focus” news, they have now completely switched to LEDs. According to the collector, this results in an additional cost of only around 89 euros per season.

Visitors travel privately

During Advent, no two Christmas fans enjoy their decorated stands alone. Many visitors travel to Lower Saxony every year: “We even had guests from Switzerland on their way north,” says Susanne Jeromin. For visitors, this can be a sensory overload; For the Jeromin couple, this is completely normal. They still turn off the flashing lights in the bedroom at night.

Although decorating for the two starts six months before Christmas each year, all the fun ends just two weeks after December 24th. Because on January 6, Epiphany, the Jeromins are decorated again. Plastic trees go into the attic, where they rest for only a few months. (gs)
