The little grebe feeds primarily on insects and their larvae; In winter, it switches to small fish such as sculpin or perch.

In the statement, it was stated that the water bird spends its breeding season from April to June mainly in the lower parts of the Swiss Plateau. Its distinctive voice is then used for courtship, and it also uses it for territory defense. In addition to its voice, the tiny grebe impresses the opposite sex with its various dives and impressive maneuvers. The five resulting chicks are initially carried on their backs.

Despite its wide distribution, the little grebe is not entirely worry-free: It is on the alert list on Switzerland’s Red List of Threatened Species, according to Birdlife. According to the organization, existing water bodies need to be kept in good condition for their protection.
