When Adam Sandler delivers a new movie to Netflix, success is a given. It wasn’t until August of this year that the charming coming-of-age comedy “You’re So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah” stormed the charts and stayed in the Netflix top 10 for a few weeks. The animated film ‘Leo’, which premiered on November 21, 2023, has now even managed to break a record on Netflix.
Because ‘Leo’ not only managed to take first place in the weekly film charts. With 34.6 million views worldwide in its first week, it was also the most successful Netflix animated film launch of all time.
‘Leo’ has overtaken previous leaders ‘Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio’ (28.8 million views in its first week) and ‘The Sea Monster’ (33.5 million views). It remains to be seen where Netflix’s animal adventure will go in the coming weeks.
The vibrant family musical adventure “Leo” was produced by Adam Sandler and co-developed with his team. Directed by Robert Smigel, Robert Marianetti and David Wachtenheim. The star comedian gives his voice to a 74-year-old lizard named Leo. Believing that he will die soon, Leo wants to escape from the terrarium in a school class to enjoy life in freedom. But a new mission soon thwarts this plan…
“Squid Game: The Challenge” triumphs in the series category
“Squid Game: The Challenge” topped the series with 20.1 million views. This is the game show spin-off of the mega-successful Netflix sensation ‘Squid Game’. In this format, various candidates face the (obviously not fatal in this case) challenges that we already know from the South Korean hit.
