Jaime Lannister draws his sword again: “Game Of Thrones” star gets leading role in new historical series

It is a good day for lovers of historical material in films and series. After it was just announced that Michael Hirst, the creator of the series “Vikings” and the production company behind “Peaky Blinders” are collaborating on the new historical series “Civil Blood”, now comes the second report about a new historical project – with none other than “Game Of Thrones” star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau in the leading role.

We’re talking about “King And Conqueror”, and anyone who enjoyed seeing Coster-Waldau as swordsman Jaime Lannister in “GoT” will definitely get their money’s worth here as well – minus dragons, though. Because ‘King And Conqueror’ is not a fantasy series that merely uses a medieval setting, but a series about current historical events. It can be assumed that perhaps the truth can be twisted a little for the sake of dramaturgy…

‘King And Conqueror’ is set in the 11th century and focuses on William, Duke of Normandy and Harold, Earl of Wessex. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau takes on the role of WilliamJames Norton will be seen as Harold, who is often discussed as a possible new James Bond actor.

“King And Conqueror” brings a legendary battle to the screen

How reported, the series is officially listed as “the story of a conflict that determined the future of a country – and a continent – for a thousand years” described. It’s about the conflicts that go back decades between interconnected family dynasties “vying for power in two lands and a rising sea.”

Harold of Wessex (King Harald II) and William of Normandy (William the Conqueror) finally met in 1066 at the infamous Battle of Hastings in the battle for the crown of England. We will also see this battle in another series in 2024, namely in the third and final season of ‘Vikings: Valhalla’.

“King And Conqueror” is planned as an eight-episode miniseries, one of which will be directed by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. Michael Robert Johnson (“Sherlock Holmes”) is behind the project as series creator and screenwriter. The BBC production will begin filming in Iceland in 2024.
