We know it all too well: there is that one actor or actress that everyone really celebrates. But you don’t understand why this artist is actually so popular. For the author of these lines, this applies, for example, to Bradley Cooper (“Hangover”), who may even be able to call himself an Oscar winner next year thanks to the Netflix biopic “Maestro”.
But it’s not just us, the average consumer, who sometimes has trouble understanding the popularity of stars. The experienced representatives of the entertainment industry are very similar. “The Card Counter” director and “Taxi Driver” writer Paul Schrader has now revealed which actor doesn’t care for him at all:
Paul Schrader can’t do anything with Joaquin Phoenix
“We all have actors that we just don’t ‘get’. At the top of my list is Joaquin Phoenix”writes Paul Schrader via Facebook. Schrader also explained in a response what makes a good actor or actress for him: “What attracts me to the appearance of an actor is the mystery. The feeling that their faces hold a secret. How someone defines that is of course relative.”
With this, Paul Schrader addresses an important point: Even if he can’t do anything with Joaquin Phoenix, that’s his own personal opinion that can’t be argued with. And that’s okay. However, the majority of moviegoers will celebrate the ‘Napoleon’ star as one of the best actors working today. Not least because of his performance in ‘Joker’, for which Phoenix also won the Oscar for Best Actor.
