How accurate are the AI weatherman’s predictions?

Until now, it was taken for granted that the accuracy of AI weather forecasts was lower than traditional forecasts. However, as the famous science magazine Nature writes, this assumption has now been refuted. Huawei researchers used deep learning and 43 years of data to develop a weather model that is more accurate than traditional numerical methods for forecast periods ranging from an hour to a week. Specifically, “Pangu-Weather” increases the speed of forecasting by 10,000 times and provides data on humidity, wind speed, temperature and air pressure within a few seconds.

What ideas do snow sports need?

This question will not only concern ski enthusiasts in the coming years: How can winter sports be made more sustainable and therefore livable? The Snowstainability initiative is at the forefront and has already launched several projects in the areas of ecological, economic and social sustainability. Also participating is Huawei, which launched a challenge at the end of November on the occasion of #herHack, a women-led hackathon as part of Digital Day to collect technology ideas that make snow sports more environmentally friendly.

How can technology benefit biodiversity in the Alps?

At first glance, biodiversity and technology do not have much in common. But Huawei’s TECH4All initiative now shows how knowledge, technology and resources can be combined for protected areas around the world. In Switzerland, Huawei is collaborating with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) on a pilot project in Schwägalp to promote biodiversity in the raised steppe area there and then promote this through the sale of CO2.2-Finance certificates. Specifically, data collected through measures taken for the benefit of the critically endangered capercaillie are examined for their effectiveness on CO2.2-Binding tested. The technology company can also provide valuable support by managing the collected data in the cloud and thus making it accessible for research purposes.

What will the computer of the future look like?

It’s clear to experts: The computers we use today will soon become obsolete. In the future, you will no longer be able to cope with the increasing flood of data. Huawei forecasts predict that the amount of data will multiply in the next few years due to artificial intelligence, high-performance computing and big data, as well as increasing demands for productivity and sustainability. The use of artificial intelligence alone requires ten times more computing power than today. What is needed in the future are innovative computer and system architectures, which are being intensively researched at Huawei’s locations in Zurich and Lausanne, with the aim of developing computers that not only meet the needs of an increasingly networked world, but also become more advanced. sustainable.

How can 5G data be made more secure?

Digitalization requires an infrastructure that meets the highest standards in terms of speed and performance; The magic word is 5G. The network also places higher demands on security. This is where Huawei comes in: The company implements accepted security standards such as 3GPP and, among other things, contributes to 5G security and development with the GSMA Knowledge Base.
