Holiday at the filming location of your favorite series: these are the travel trends for 2024

Julia Dombrowsky / watson.de

Holiday seekers used to thumb their noses at travel agencies and dream of going to the Seychelles or Morocco based on catalog photos. Nowadays you increasingly find inspiration for your next holiday destination on Netflix, Prime or Disney+.

Traveling to film locations, also known as ‘set jetting’, is a holiday trend that travel providers noticed as early as 2023. Global data from Expedia (compared to the same period last year) showed that within 90 days of the start of a series, hotel bookings at the corresponding filming locations skyrocketed. A few examples?

Interesting: in a current trend survey among more than 20,000 travelers from Expedia and FeWo-direkt, more than half of travelers worldwide (53 percent) also indicate that they have already done research or even booked a trip to a place that you know from a movie or series.

Conversely, this also means that just the scheduled season start of popular series can provide information about which travel destinations may be popular in the future – and where you should book quickly (or avoid the place altogether, depending on the situation). .

Based on this knowledge, the prediction of the above providers for “up and coming” travel destinations in 2024 is:

Three series in particular created a real travel hype within Europe in the past: ‘Emily in Paris’, ‘Wednesday’ and the ‘Bridgerton’ world. New seasons of the hit shows are expected next year. If you are smart, you can book a place to sleep early in the romantic setting of your favorite stories to escape from your daily life not only spatially but also atmospherically. Our top picks:

Whether it’s Carrie Bradshaw making a miserable attempt to emigrate or Lupine strolling through the Louvre, the film industry is almost magically drawn to Paris. Travelers staying at the Grand Hotel du Palais Royal in the French capital will be very close to the events of the film.

The luxury hotel (approximately 160 francs per night) is located on Place de Valois, where the fictional marketing agency that Emily works for is also located. The only downside? The Boulangerie Moderne bakery, where Emily gets her croissants, is about an hour’s walk away…

The Villa Sinaia (eight guests, approx. 200 francs per night) in the Bucegi National Park is located in the immediate vicinity of the train station, which appears in the series. Because: Although “Wednesday” is set in Vermont, USA, it was actually shot entirely in Romania.

Located at the foot of the majestic Carpathians and once the residence of the Romanian royal family, Sinaia has retained its historical magic in the middle of the mountains. This villa is classically and luxuriously furnished, with extensive use of wood carvings. The building is surrounded by picturesque (and creepy) woods.

“Let us spill the tea”: You can really feel powdery and bloated, like in the setting of “Bridgerton” and Queen Charlotte in the Scottish country house Kinblethmont House in Arbroath.

The Victorian-looking house not only boasts old-world charm, but also large reception rooms, 14 bedrooms, a large park and games rooms. This house screams for a family celebration for up to 28 people and is available for rent (approx. 1,600 francs per night).
