After ‘Snatch’, Guy Ritchie’s next gangster highlight is now a series: first images of Netflix’s ‘The Gentlemen’

Guy Ritchie’s “The Gentlemen” was released in German cinemas in February 2020 and, with an all-star cast including Charlie Hunnam, Matthew McConaughey and Hugh Grant, brought a British gangster comedy to the big screen that was worth seeing. In the FILMSTARTS review, we gave the entertaining fun a remarkable 4 out of 5 stars, which is only slightly worse than Ritchie’s cult films “Snatch – Pigs and Diamonds” and “Jack, Queen, King, GrAs”.

‘The Gentlemen’ is also something very special for the director, as he described the world of the film Netflix Ritchie originally envisioned the story of drug lord Mickey Pearson and the bidding war for his marijuana plantations as a series, but eventually adapted the idea into a two-hour film. Just a few months after the film’s release, the director and screenwriter announced the good news that the world of ‘The Gentlemen’ would become a series – and it’s now coming to Netflix.

Theo James and Kaya Scodelario in the first photos of “The Gentlemen”

There are also the first photos from Ritchie’s series, in which he shows us the new cast of “Gentlemen” around the star “Divergent” and “The White Lotus” Theo James and the stars of “Pirates of the Caribbean 5” and “Maze Runner.” Kaya Scaledario presentsposing almost as coolly as McConaughey and Hunnam in wood-paneled rooms and drizzly British weather.

James takes on the role of Eddie Horniman, who inherits his father’s stately estate and realizes that it includes an entire cannabis empire. Numerous figures from the British underworld then become aware of Eddie and try to seize his inheritance. When he becomes determined to free his family from the clutches of the gangsters, Eddie tastes blood and slides deeper into crime himself.

James and Scodelario are joined by Daniel Ings (“Lovesick”), Joely Richardson (“Blacklist”), Vinnie Jones (“Arrow”), Giancarlo Esposito (“Better Caul Saul”), Chanel Cresswell (“This Is England”), Max Beesley (“Hijack”) and Jasmine Blackborow (“Marie Antoinette”) on the cast list of “The Gentlemen.”

Guy Ritchie serves as writer, co-creator and director of the first two episodes of the series, while being executive produced by Matthew Read (“Peaky Blinders”). The first season of ‘The Gentlemen’ will consist of eight episodes and will be released on Netflix in 2024.
