Nearly six months after the largest rocket system ever built in space history exploded during a test flight, the next test is scheduled to begin Friday. Pictured is the rocket exploding in April. (archive image)

SpaceX announced on Wednesday that a two-hour launch window will open at 14:00 CET at its spaceport in the US state of Texas, with a live broadcast also planned.

At the same time, Elon Musk’s space company sent out a noise alert to surrounding Cameron County residents: A “loud noise” could be heard from 33 engines in the area. “But what people experience also depends on weather and other conditions.”

“Starship” improved

“Starship” first took off for an unmanned test flight in mid-April and exploded to pieces four minutes later. Billionaire Musk, whose space company SpaceX developed and built the “Starship” rocket system, saw it not as a setback but as an “exciting test launch.” Musk has always emphasized that the next test start should be made as soon as possible.

The US aviation authority, the FAA, investigated the incident and called for numerous remedial measures as a condition for the start of the next test. SpaceX announced that it has implemented many improvements and changes.

Consisting of an approximately 70-meter-long “Super Heavy” thruster and an approximately 50-meter-long upper stage, also called “Starship”, “Starship” aims to carry out manned missions to the Moon and Mars. The system is designed to be reusable after the spacecraft and rocket return to Earth. The system, with a total length of around 120 meters, will be able to carry over 100 tons of cargo in the future. NASA wants to take astronauts to the moon with the “Starship”. SpaceX hopes to go to Mars one day. (SDA)
