After Thanos was brought to his knees in ‘Avengers: Endgame’, a new villain, Kang the Conqueror, was introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which would then culminate in ‘Avengers 5’ and ‘Avengers 6’. Kang previously appeared in “Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania” and the second season of “Loki.” However, what happens to the villain next is uncertain.
After Jonathan Majors was indicted on domestic violence charges (the trial begins on November 29), it’s still unclear whether they’ll switch to a new villain (e.g. Doctor Doom) or simply cast a new actor for the role. Joanna Robinson, author of the book “MCU: The Reign Of The Marvel Studios”, is now on the podcast reported the following:
“I recently heard from someone that Jeff Loveness, who wrote Ant-Man 3 and would also write Avengers 5 and Avengers 5, is no longer working for Marvel. I asked this person why that is the case and it should be the case because Loveness is very closely tied to the Kang storyline and Marvel will most likely move away from that.
New appointment or completely eliminated?
Joanna Robinson’s statements are not official or confirmed. However, it would fit the picture, because the insider already has it in his possession in August 2023 MyTimeToShineHello reported that Jeff Loveness and Michael Waldron were cut from “Avengers 5” and “Avengers 6.” The industry magazine reported this in November also that Marvel is currently busy looking for a way to replace Kang.
Even though Jonathan Majors may not be convicted, it is understandable that Disney does not want to wait and see how the trial of the actor who plays the new main villain of the upcoming ‘Avengers’ films will go. Regardless of how things turn out for Majors, Marvel is currently trying to adjust its plans for the future as quickly as possible – and thus also weigh any eventualities.
So if you decide not to recast Jonathan Majors (which wouldn’t actually be a problem considering the multiverse) and bring in a completely new villain, he would have to be rebuilt and the whole establishment process would have to start all over again. This will likely throw out many other plans for the MCU. So it remains exciting to see what direction the comic universe will take regarding Kang.
