With the series ‘Fear Street’, Netflix was able to add three notable genre representatives to its streaming program in 2021, delighting fans of horror films around the world. Even though the third part of the series couldn’t quite keep up with its predecessors for us, it presented us with old-school horror slashers reminiscent of cult classics like ‘Scream’ or ‘Friday the 13th’. remembered. Because the films are based on the coming-of-age series of the same name by “Goosebumps” author RL Stine, which now includes more than 150 novels, it could have been expected that the franchise would not have ended after three adaptations.
As Netflix CEO Scott Stuber spoke explained, A new standalone film in the ‘Fear Street’ series is now actually in development: “There are many novels. We are currently working on a standalone film and trying to finalize the script. I like it a lot and so does the team. Once the script is written, it would be a great addition to the franchise.”
Will “Fear Street 4” come in a new period with new characters?
The original ‘Fear Street’ trilogy featured a different time period for each film and told the horrors in the sleepy American town of Shadyville during the years 1994, 1978 and 1666. Director Leigh Janiak had already indicated in advance that she could imagine the 1950s as a time period for a new film.
Since last year though Chloe Okuno (“Guardian”) possible new director of “Fear Street 4” was announced, the question is whether this project should be continued. It is also questionable whether Scott Stuber actually means the release of the franchise in which Okuno is expected to take a seat in the director’s chair with the standalone “Fear Street” film.
While the ‘Fear Street’ trilogy, despite the different time levels, always has the same main cast of Kiana Madeira, Olivia Scott Welch and Benjamin Flores Jr. in the story, The standalone film could now introduce some new characters to the franchise.
