Before appearing in this year’s controversial surprise hit ‘Sound Of Freedom’, Jim Caviezel not only played Jesus Christ in Mel Gibson’s (also controversial) Biblical epic ‘The Passion of the Christ’ – He also took on the lead role in a hugely successful miniseries, which even Christopher Nolan impressed!
In the six-part mystery series “The Prisoner” (based on the 1967 British series “Number 6”), Caviezel plays an unnamed man who wakes up under mysterious circumstances in a desert where he sees an… old man being hunted and soon to die then before his eyes. He soon discovers a strange city where the buildings all have the same shape – and where all the people have numbers instead of names. It doesn’t take long before he realizes that the residents (including “Captain America” star Hayley Atwell) are actually prisoners of Chief Number 2 (Gandalf actor Ian McKellen) – and now he too…

Although the series was lost in Germany and received mixed reviews, it was very well received by audiences – and ‘Oppenheimer’ director Christopher Nolan was also among the fans. So much so that he considered adapting the series on the big screen. A major production company, Universal, was already on board, but Nolan admitted he couldn’t quite handle the material (via ): After some theoretical considerations and discussions that did not lead to tangible results, Nolan decided to leave the project – and so to this day there is still no screen version of “The Prisoner”.
