Agreement was finally reached on the Hollywood actors’ strike on Thursday. Many previously on hold shoots can now continue, productions planned and post-production processes completed. However, numerous start date postponements show that the long 118-day hiatus did not leave Hollywood unscathed. Because many of the films scheduled for 2024 can no longer be ready on time.
Disney has therefore now cleaned up its launch calendar and announced new dates. The MCU adventures ‘Deadpool 3’, ‘Captain America: Brave New World’, ‘Blade’ and ‘Thunderbolts’, among others, are postponed.
So it will be “Deadpool3” starring Ryan Reynolds from its original launch date of May 1, 2024 in the US on July 26, 2024 (probably July 24 or 25 for us) pushed when “Captain America: Brave New World” was set to hit theaters. At least Ryan Reynolds gave fans solace: He also posted a new photo from “Deadpool 3” as part of the postponement news.
There was some preliminary speculation as to whether “Captain America 4” could be pushed back to the May date of “Deadpool 3,” as filming of the superhero movie starring Anthony Mackie is already more advanced and therefore could usher in spring for the MCU instead. However, nothing will come of it Instead, “Captain America 4: Brave New World” awaits us a full nine months later than planned, namely in the US on February 14, 2025, and in Germany probably a day or two earlier.
In 2024, only “Deadpool 3” will be released from the MCU
Also “Lightning Strikes” will no longer be shown in cinemas in 2024. The superhero meeting with Sebastian Stan and Florence Pugh, among others, would actually have been waiting for us in Germany on December 18, 2024. However, the new start date is now almost exactly one year after “Deadpool 3”: in the US on July 25, 2025, in Germany one or two days earlier, as is usually the case.
And the planned reboot of “Blade” is also affected by the postponement. Since “Captain America 4” has now secured a February 2025 date, the vampire adventure will be pushed back to November 7, 2025 in the US. The new “Blade” starring Mahershala Ali in the title role is expected to open in Germany on November 5 or 6, 2025.
Continue with that planned release of “Fantastic four” in May 2025 will return for Marvel after the “Deadpool” solo in 2024 four films for 2025 in the starting blocks. This means that ‘Thunderbolts’ and ‘Blade’ in turn take away the start dates of two as yet untitled Marvel films, which we can now probably only expect in 2026. As always, such start date postponements have a domino effect.
Disney is also postponing the prequel to The Lion King
In addition to the MCU releases, Barry Jenkins’ “The Lion King” prequel “Mufasa: The Lion King,” which was supposed to reach us on July 4, 2024, is also affected by the postponement. Now we’ll see the live-action adventure shortly before Christmas next year, namely in the US on December 20, 2024 and in Germany probably on December 18.
