At the beginning of his career, Vin Diesel declined to star in sequels. He has now given up that – which you already see in the many ‘Fast & Furious’ films. But because he really didn’t feel like making sequels in the meantime, Ice Cube took on the title role in the sequel “xXx 2 – The Next Level” in 2005 after “xXx – Triple X” (2002).
As the title suggests, Vin Diesel is back in “xXx 3: The Return of Xander Cage” – and after the solid first part and the pretty bad second part In our opinion, “xXx 3” became the best part of the series. Director DJ Caruso’s “xXx 3” starts off with a bang: Eugene Gibbons (Samuel L. Jackson), already known from parts 1 and 2, wants to recruit football star Neymar (!) for his extreme sports agent program. He politely declines, but as he walks past he kicks an armed robber in the head with a napkin holder (!!), only to be shortly afterwards swept away along with the gibbons by a falling satellite (!!!).
“And the best part: the rest of ‘xXx 3: The Return of Xander Cage’ delivers what this grand Gaga debut promises!”, writes FILMSTARTS editor-in-chief Christoph Petersen in his review of the film, giving it a whopping 3.5 out of 5 stars. The short but concise conclusion: “Wow, that’s great! Wow, that’s nice!”
The plot of “xXx 3”
After the opening described above, Xander Cage (Vin Diesel), who has actually already left the xXx program, must save the world again. Gibbons’ successor Jane Marke (Toni Collette) needs someone to secure the so-called “Pandora’s Box”, a box that allows satellites to fall to Earth.
To do this, Cage recruits a team consisting of driver Tennyson Torch (Rory McCann), sniper Adele Wolff (Ruby Rose), DJ Nicks (Kris Wu), and weapons specialist Becky (Nina Dobrev). Together they hunt down renegade xXx agent Xiang (Donnie Yen) and his crew, Serena (Deepika Padukone), Talon (Tony Jaa) and Hawk (Michael Bisping), who stole the gun…
