Hollywood Strike Ends: ‘Gladiator 2’ and ‘Deadpool 3’ Among First Films to Restart Immediately

Filmmakers and film fans have been waiting for this moment for months, and now it’s finally here: The great Hollywood strike of actors and actresses is officially over. 118 days after they stopped working, they finally return in front of the cameras – to resume filming, promote their latest productions and get the dream factory running again.

As the actors’ union SAG-AFTRA has explained, the strike will be officially settled on Thursday (midnight). An “agreement in principle” was reached, so that after almost four months, daily life in Hollywood can finally return.

The union led by ‘The Nanny’ actress Fran Drescher, which includes more than 160,000 actors as well as stunt people, journalists and presenters, demanded better pay and clear rules on how to deal with artificial intelligence within the industry. The former, of course, refers less to the millionaire superstars at the top of the salary and career ladder, but rather to the many, many actors who have to keep their heads above water with smaller roles and even lower salaries.

After a brief double strike – the screenwriters stopped working in May – normality can finally return to Hollywood. The writers’ strike was resolved just over a month ago.

Hollywood: Back to normality

This doesn’t just mean that the cameras in Hollywood can be turned on again. Actors are now allowed to openly talk about and re-promote their projects (always within the framework of their contractual obligations and confidentiality clauses, of course). Thereafter We can expect a lot of news from the dream factory in the coming days and weeks. It can also be hoped that there will be no further delays to the theatrical release – unless of course a film or series cannot be filmed or released as planned for other reasons. “We would of course like to maintain a summer full of films. The entire industry is focused on it,” says Disney boss Bob Iger, among others.

That among the noise Unsurprisingly, the first Hollywood films to resume production “this week or in the very near future” are also Disney productions. Next “Deadpool 3” will soon also be available for “Gladiator 2“, “Poison 3“. “Beetle juice 2” like “Juror #2“Finally moving on.

Nearly 50 percent complete, the third “Deadpool” film starring Ryan Reynolds is expected to hit theaters on May 1, 2024 — so there’s not much time left to actually hit that date. However, by swapping dates with “Captain America 4: Brave New World” (July 24, 2024), you could build up a buffer of almost three months here.

The ‘Gladiator’ sequel still has a little more time until its theatrical release on November 21, 2024, and Tom Hardy’s ‘Venom’ return has now been pushed back a few months anyway. ‘Juror #2’, the new film by the now 93-year-old Clint Eastwood, does not yet have an official release date. The sequel to Tim Burton’s “Beetlejuice”, in which According to that there are only two days of filming left, it will start on September 5, 2024.
