Actually, the cult bloodsucker Blade should have celebrated his MCU debut on November 1, 2023. But if you look at the calendar of current theatrical releases, you’ll find no trace of Daywalker. No wonder, because the cinema release of ‘Blade’ was initially postponed to September 2024 and has now even been moved to February 12, 2025.
This date is also more wishful thinking so far, as the script hasn’t even been written yet. After five (!) script attempts, “Logan” author Michael Green should now take a new approach. So far there’s little reason to be happy, but ‘Blade’ director Yann Demange has now made a statement that will immediately make many fans take notice.
“Blade” gets an R rating
In an interview with Yann Demange was also briefly asked about the status of the ‘Blade’ reboot about his new short film ‘Dammi’. Of course, there wasn’t much to get out of the director, but the filmmaker was able to reveal one thing – and this should especially please fans of the comic series. The comedy actioner has now received R-rating approval from Disney! This means that the studio has given permission to make the reboot really bloody and dark.
And that’s really something special in the MCU cosmos, because ‘Blade’ is only the second film after ‘Deadpool 3″which received an R-rating approval. With this, the director confirms what was already rumored. The relatively small budget for a Marvel blockbuster (this one will be shot for less than $100 million) has already hinted that the film could be significantly darker and bloodier than other Marvel productions. For fans of the bloodsucker, this is certainly a reason to be happy, as there is now hope that the film will actually be closely based on the comic book.
It’s almost as if Disney-Marvel is going in a different direction and moving away from the idea of making every hero, movie and series family-friendly entertainment. The trailer for “Echo” was surprisingly brutal. If you’d like to check it out again, you can find it here:
