Hollywood actors are not satisfied with the studios’ offer – the strike continues

According to their union, the striking Hollywood actors do not agree with the studios’ ‘final offer’. “There are several important points on which we have still not been able to reach agreement, including the issue of artificial intelligence,” the actors’ union SAG-AFTRA said on Monday (local time). in the online service X, formerly Twitter.

The union represents 160,000 actors, dancers, stuntmen and other performers in the industry.

On Saturday, the studios announced they would submit their “last, best and final” offer to the union. For their part, SAG-AFTRA negotiators said they were committed to ending the 116-day strike “responsibly” — but had not yet reached an agreement with the trade association AMPTP, which represents Disney, Netflix, Warner, Universal, Paramount and Sony represents.

The studios organized in the AMPTP accused the actors’ union of setting too high demands. This requires, among other things, a redistribution of revenues from streaming platforms, which “would cost the industry alone more than $800 million per year.”

SAG-AFTRA called on its members to strike in July and filming in Hollywood has been at a standstill since then. It is the first strike by American actors and actresses since 1980. Because American screenwriters had already stopped working before this industrial action, Hollywood also had a double strike for the first time in more than 60 years.

The screenwriters ended their strike in October. The agreement raised hopes that the actors would soon return to the filming locations – but that is apparently not the case for the time being. (sda/afp)
