“Five Nights At Freddy’s” has a good chance of becoming the horror hit of the year. In its first weekend, the youth-friendly jump scare generated nearly $130.6 million worldwide. An incredible result, especially since the film was released simultaneously in the US on the streaming platform Peacock and cost just under $20 million to produce.
If you haven’t had enough of animatronic killing machines after seeing “Five Nights At Freddy’s” in theaters, here’s a good tip for you: Be sure to take a look”Willy’s Wonderland” bee! The film offers everything ‘FNAF’ has to offer and is clearly inspired by the iconic game series, but was released in 2021. Furthermore, the crazy B-movie film starring Nicolas Cage has an almost unbeatable argument on the cast list.
This is “Willy’s Wonderland”
Nic Cage plays a silent action hero who accidentally becomes embroiled in a brutal fight for survival against bloodthirsty plush robots. In order to have his car, which has broken down somewhere in the middle of nowhere, repaired in the workshop, the cashless and nameless hero agrees to a momentous deal: as a caretaker he is supposed to help out on the run for a night. to Willy’s Wonderland.
But it turns out there’s a huge catch. While there are free energy drinks and some slot machines to pass the time, there are animatronic killing machines at work in Willy’s Wonderland that are targeting the new caretaker…
If you haven’t seen the movie yet and have a passion for ‘Five Nights At Freddy’s’ or Nicolas Cage, then you shouldn’t miss ‘Willy’s Wonderland’. Anyone who has an Amazon Prime Video subscription can currently watch the film at no additional cost. Alternatively, you can rent the film for a small dollar or just catch a nice movie Mediabook variant*.
The premise is already powerful: Nicolas Cage versus plush killing machines. Who can resist that? And ‘Willy’s Wonderland’ is actually ideal for a moody B-movie evening. Unfortunately, the subplot about a group of local teenagers ultimately prevents the film from rising into the league of really good Nicolas Cage films. Because they take up an unnecessary amount of space in the 88-minute film and also turn out to be quite strenuous characters.
There is no doubt that you can still have a lot of fun with the horror actor, who is clearly inspired by the game series “Five Nights At Freddy’s”. Author Oliver Kube even gives 3.5 out of 5 stars in his FILMSTARTS review and comes to the following conclusion:
“A wonderfully absurd horror comedy with cult potential – not least thanks to Nicolas Cage, who contradicts his image with a wink.”
