The best horror titles of 2023

There are several films that have become classics of horror cinema such as “The Shining”, “Friday the 13th” and “The Fear Game”, to name a few titles, however, on IMDb (Internet Movie Database) there is a rating from the premiere in this genre so far this year.

The first 10 places on the list are led by the film “Forest Hills” with a 7.8 rating, which marks the return to the big screen of actress Shelley Duvall (Wendy Torrance in “The Shining”) after a 20-year absence.

The second place on the list is occupied “Nattevagten – Dæmoner går i arv” (“The Night Watch: The Inheritance of Demons”), with 7.8 points out of 10, this is the second sequel to Ole Bornedal’s horror hit that toured Danish cinemas.

“Late Night with the Devil”, directed by Cameron and Colin Cairnes is in third place with a rating of 7.5, followed by “When Evil Stalks” with 7.2 in fourth place, and “Lord of Misrule” in fifth place (7.2).

The last positions are occupied by titles such as “Founder’s Day” (7.2), “Starving Acre” (7.1), “Fanga” (7.1) and “There’s something in the barn” (6.9), “Hell summer” (6.9).

“Starve Acre”, in position seven, is a film from award-winning director Daniel Kokotajlo starring Morfydd Clark (“Hell in the Storm”) and Matt Smith (“Dragon House”).

“Fanga”, director and screenplay Max Goldfollows a farmer who becomes captive to a carnivorous beast to cure his father’s illness, while “There’s Something in the Barn”, at number nine, is about a barn elf.’

The IMDb platform has a category in which all of this year’s horror releases are listed by rating, the maximum rating is 10.

The list includes films such as “Late Night with the Devil”, “Fanga”, “The Forest Hills”, “Nattevagten – Dæmoner går i arv” and “Scream VI”.

It is worth mentioning that there are titles that have been awarded a good resultbut not enough to be in the top ten like “Saw The Awakening” (6.5), “The Pope’s Exorcist” (6.1), “There’s a Knock at the Door” (6.1) and “The Boogeyman” (5.9) .
