One of the best horror films of the past ten years is finally getting a sequel

‘It Follows’ is probably one of the most exciting horror films of the past ten years. The atmospheric shocker has made a name for itself, especially among genre enthusiasts (such as the author of this article). At the latest with the horror distinction of being mentioned in “Scream 5”, released in 2022, the film has finally earned its place among the most important genre representatives of the past decade, which is also reflected in the reviews. On the American site for collecting reviews The film can receive 95 percent positive reviews “It Follows” earned an average review score of 83 out of 100 points.

And that’s no wonder. With his direct hit, director David Robert Mitchell (“Under The Silver Lake”) managed to deal with social fears in an exciting way: the panic surrounding the HIV pandemic in the 1980s is discussed here, as well as the trauma of post-9/ 11 America. The film is also a harsh visualization of sexual violence and its traumatic consequences. In short: “It Follows” is more than a standard horror film.

Fans of the film can be happy that ‘It Follows’, after some teething problems, is now actually getting a sequel.

Filming for ‘They Follow’ will start in 2024

At this week’s American Film Market, it was officially announced that they are working on “They Follow,” a sequel to the 2014 horror hit. It has also been confirmed that David Robert Mitchell will be back on board as screenwriter and director and that “It Follows” lead actress Maika Monroe will appear in front of the camera again as Jay Height.

Filming for ‘They Follow’ is expected to start in 2024, and we may even be able to expect a theatrical release in 2025.

In 2015, there were already rumors going around about a possible sequel to the indie hit. At the time, director David Robert had Mitchell in one reveal that he actually had many other ideas for “It Follows,” but due to time constraints and the low budget, he had to simplify or completely remove them from the film. And these may perhaps be implemented in the future. Such a statement obviously gives fans of the predecessor hope that ‘They Follow’ can also build on the insanely high quality of its predecessor.

By the way, if you would like to view David Robert Mitchell’s follow-up work ‘Under The Silver Lake’, you currently have the ideal opportunity to do so. The surreal and darkly humorous psychological thriller is currently available to stream for free (albeit with ads) on Amazon Freevee:
