Another day, another statement from ‘Harry Potter’ and ‘Fantastic Beasts’ director David Yates. Although the filmmaker recently disappointed Potterheads that he likely won’t join the Harry Potter series planned for HBO Max as he’s set to return to Hogwarts, Yates now provides an update on his involvement in the ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ series – more specifically the fourth part of the precursor.
During the promotional tour of his Netflix satire “Pain Hustlers,” Yates had already made several statements about the “Fantastic Beasts” franchise, most recently that he would “never say never,” but he has had no further discussions with Warner about a fourth episode would have taken place. In an interview with he now goes deeper into the background and explains that the franchise would currently be stagnant after three labor-intensive films:
“[Phantastische Tierwesen] is currently parked. We made these three films, the last one even during the pandemic, and That was a lot of fun, but also very tiring. We filmed when there was no vaccine yet. Fortunately, no one got sick, but we had to photograph under the strictest conditions. We are all so proud of it [Phantastische Tierwesen 3: Dumbledores Geheimnisse] and when we put the film out into the world, we just had to take a break and take it easy.
David Yates lays it all out for Potter fans
Yates has now spent many years in the United States Before the three “Fantastic Beasts” prequels, he directed the last four “Harry Potter” films. When these were in the can and the prequel series about Newt Scamander, Albus Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald was to be tackled, there were no concrete agreements about the exact number of the prequel series.
The fact that five parts of the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ series would actually be made came as a big surprise to the director and other crew members, he now says. said: “The idea of making five films came as a surprise to most of us. [J.K. Rowling] I just mentioned it spontaneously at a press screening. Nobody told us about five films, we only committed to the first film…”
Still, the filmmaker can imagine that the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ series will continue at some point and make everything clear to the fans, at least in the long term: ‘I’m sure we’ll come back again someday. But hey, I didn’t go with you [J.K. Rowling] I haven’t spoken to David [Heyman] I haven’t spoken to Warner Bros. We’re taking a break now. And that’s fun. This gives me the opportunity to do other things.”
By other things, David Yates means, among other things, his latest film ‘Pain Hustlers’ starring Chris Evans and Emily Blunt, which has been on Netflix since October 27.
