We’re deep into the multiverse with the MCU – and that also means a lot of stars are associated with comebacks. After all, even dead characters can reappear as variants from another universe. And you can also draw from films outside the MCU – as evidenced by appearances by Patrick Stewart in ‘Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness’ or by Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’.
There will likely be some comebacks in the upcoming multiverse adventures “Deadpool 3,” as well as “Avengers 5: The Kang Dynasty” and “Avengers 6: Secret Wars.” There was always speculation that Edward Norton could once again play Bruce Banner, aka the Hulk – after he was replaced by Mark Ruffalo after “The Incredible Hulk”. But that seems impossible. He would be one of two prominent filmmakers who are so annoyed by Kevin Feige that an MCU return is no longer conceivable.
Edward Norton: He probably wanted too much control!
In their book ‘MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios’, insiders Joanna Robinson, Dave Gonzales and Gavin Edwards look back on the success story of the MCU and they also have quite a few stories to tell from all years and films.
It also addresses some of the disagreements surrounding “The Incredible Hulk.” As part of production are the main characters Edward Norton and MCU mastermind Kevin Fig collided violently with each other. Norton is known for exerting a lot of control in his acting projects. His dispute with director Tony Kaye over the final cut of ‘American History And Norton also feuded with Feige over what her ‘Hulk’ film should ultimately look like. The actor wanted a “longer, heavier film” in the footsteps of Christopher Nolan’s “Batman Begins.” According to the book, Feige had a “shorter adventure film” in mind.
They fell out so badly that future collaboration was completely ruled out. At least that’s what the three book authors reported: after even the Marvel flop “Inhumans” was rehabilitated (via Anson Mount’s cameo as Black Bolt in “Doctor Strange 2”) Nearly everyone from the MCU is on Feige’s phone list for a possible return. There are only two names where this is not the case. One is Edward Norton, the other is a successful MCU director: Joss Whedon.
Joss Whedon: He wanted to stay with SHIELD
There also doesn’t seem to be any chance of a return for the filmmaker – and this one was particularly closely tied to the MCU. Joss Whedon directed two of the most important and successful entries in the franchise with “The Avengers” and “The Avengers 2: Age Of Ultron”. The fact that there have been several accusations against Whedon, especially from actresses, of “unprofessional” behavior on sets and “cruel exploitation of his power” makes major commitments for him questionable at this point. But the tablecloth with Feige would have been cut to pieces long ago – because of the TV series that Whedon made in addition to the ‘Avengers’ films in the MCU.
Because he was one of the driving forces behind ‘Agents Of SHIELD’. Already It was repeatedly reported that Feige was a major thorn in the side of the series, which ran for seven seasons from 2013 to 2020.because he had no control over it and so things happened that didn’t fit into his MCU canon.
According to the current book He is said to have been particularly angry that the government organization SHIELD continued to exist secretly in the series, although it was destroyed in the film Captain America 2: The Return Of The First Avenger. This is one of the reasons Feige doesn’t consider “Agents Of SHIELD” canon. Because of this and his dislike for the series, don’t expect characters from there to make a comeback (even though fans always want Chloe Bennet aka Skye/Quake to return). However, it is completely out of the question that Feige will invite Whedon to work together again. He ultimately continued with the series, even though he knew how little Feige thought of it.
Completely different MCU stars, on the other hand, will return to cinemas very soon. ‘The Marvels’ can be seen on the big screen from November 8, 2023. Brie Larson from ‘Captain Marvel’, Iman Vellani from ‘Ms. Marvel” and Teyonah Parris of “WandaVision” join forces despite themselves when they realize that their powers are connected in a special way. Also in attendance: MCU veteran Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury!
