“External stimuli often help you wake up quicker,” says Helen Slawik, head of the Center for Sleep Medicine at the University Hospitals of Basel. This could be music or the radio host’s voice. German: “He who procrastinates loses.” Slawik says using the snooze button is actually inconvenient. Usually, people who have a habit of sleeping for an hour or more come to his examination. Sometimes it is extremely difficult to break out of this pattern. “The easiest way to do this is to let someone wake you up temporarily.”

How effective are daylight lamps?

Daylight lamps are called artificial light sources that have the color temperature of daylight. They help against fatigue and seasonal depression. If you buy one, it’s best to place it at the recommended distance but you don’t need to look directly at the light source. In summer, natural brightness is usually sufficient, says Slawik. During dark seasons, daylight lamps can help you wake up faster. “Exposing yourself to sunlight in the morning has the greatest effect because this is when some cells in the retina respond particularly strongly to light.”

It may help to let a sunlight lamp shine on you while you eat your morning meal.
