Whether it’s an avocado pit remover, a pineapple slicer or an egg separator: in the world of kitchen helpers there are all kinds of inventions designed to make life easier. One tool that hasn’t made much of a splash yet is the leftover spoon from the Kochblume brand.
The manufacturer promises that the flexible silicone spoon can reach even the most hidden corners of containers such as bowls, glasses or pots to completely empty these containers. Here, as an example, the Nutella jar with a stainless steel core that is heat resistant up to 260°C and can be scraped with a spoon is mentioned. And: The spoon can also be used for serving and is also suitable for eating – especially for babies and toddlers who accept the flexible material very well.
What good is a spoon left over for 19 francs? Blick does the test and orders the spoon from Amazon. It is delivered on time, and the first thing that surprises you when you unpack it is its size: the kitchen helper is actually longer, but its tip is smaller than expected. It is much less bulky than a traditional dough scraper. The material is much more flexible and also more curved than other silicone dough spatulas or spoons; so it looks more like a large spoon than a dough scraper. The workmanship is good, the material looks good.
For the first attempt, the hot porridge is poured from a metal container into a bowl with the remaining spoon. The liquid sticky porridge can be easily transferred to the plate with the kitchen tool, leaving almost no residue in the pot: but there is no real difference compared to using the traditional dough scraper. Additionally, it would be much more practical for this application if the remaining spoon was a little larger.
On to the second test: an almost empty confit jar. The remaining spoon was probably designed for this application. In fact, you can get into every nook and cranny with the kitchen helper; Apricot jam can be completely removed from the jar in just a few simple steps.
Third and final test: Eating with a spoon. It works, but it’s quite unusual. The material feels a bit odd in the mouth, especially the flexible “wings” of the remaining spoon. It’s entirely conceivable that babies and toddlers would find this pleasant; However, this is not the case for palates accustomed to metal cutlery.
So if you’re looking for a spoon to scrape your jam, honey and Nutella jars until they’re sparkling clean, you should get a leftover spoon. In the Blick test, it is less suitable to be used as a dough scraper or cutlery for larger pots.
By the way, there are all kinds of tips on the Internet for the Nutella jar problem: For example, it is recommended to fill the jar with warm milk, screw on the lid and shake. The warmth of the milk loosens the Nutella residue and you have delicious chocolate milk.
