There will be a number of potential movies and series hitting Netflix next week that might be worth checking out. To ensure that you don’t lose the overview, we tell you, like every Sunday evening, which titles you should have on your radar. The big Netflix highlight this week is of course “Painkillers‘ from ‘Harry Potter’ and ‘Fantastic Beasts’ director David Yates. In this wild mix of “Dopesick” and “The Wolf Of Wall Street,” ex-Captain America Chris Evans and Emily Blunt (“A Quiet Place”) become beneficiaries of the US opioid crisis and make money selling painkillers.
Find out what else is coming up in our Netflix highlight preview for the week of October 23 to 29, 2023 – as always neatly sorted by day of the week:
Monday: Action with Liam Neeson
From today the activist “The Sharpshooter – The Sniper‘ with Liam Neeson ready to watch. However, we can only give limited advice about the film. In our FILMSTARTS review, our author Sidney Schering gave it an average of just 2.5 out of 5 possible stars and criticized the template-like character drawing and predictable plot structure. Fans of Liam Neeson can still take a look.
Tuesday: A great animated series
A personal recommendation from the author of this article: if you like comic series, definitely give the animated series “The Justice League” an opportunity. On Tuesday, the first season of the DC animated series will be released on Netflix. The focus here is not only on well-known heroes, but also on the second guardian – characters such as Black Canary, Vixen, Vigilante, Shining Knight, Booster Gold and Huntress get their moment here, just like the big figureheads Batman, Superman & Co. .
It’s going to be really good “The Justice League“ By the way, only after the first season. It remains to be hoped that Netflix will include the remaining two seasons in the program.
Wednesday: A comedy that was completely lost in German cinemas
Of “The machine“Today a comedy starts on Netflix, which completely ended up in the German box office. And that’s not really surprising, because stand-up comedian Bert Kreischer films one of his most famous stage stories here. The comedian, who likes to perform topless on stages, simply doesn’t know anyone in Germany – and so there was little interest in this action comedy, even though “Star Wars” icon Mark Hamill really goes crazy on drugs. Netflix subscribers can now find out from the comfort of their couches whether the comedy really tickles the funny bone.
If you want it a little less over-the-top, you can take a look at “Life on our planet” throw. The documentary series from the makers of ‘Our Planet’ brings the prehistoric world to new life. Of course, similar attempts have been made before, but this time even ‘Jurassic Park’ director Steven Spielberg was involved in the production of the documentary series In addition, veteran actor Morgan Freeman was brought on board as narrator. Dino fans should stream here.
Thursday: Dystopian anime series
In the anime series “Pluto“It is not about the Disney dog of the same name, but about a world in which people and robots live peacefully side by side. However, this changes when an unknown force hunts down the seven largest robots in the world. Interpol relies on Inspector Face (voice in the original: Shinshuu Fuji) from Düsseldorf (!) – and this is the kind of thing that makes anime series absolutely great.
Friday: A wild mix of “The Wolf Of Wall Street” and “Dopesick”
“PainkillersIt was highly anticipated leading up to its release. As part of the film rights market, which traditionally takes place on the sidelines of the Cannes Film Festival Netflix paid nearly $50 million for the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ director’s thriller satire in 2022 David Yates can play exclusively.
Just like in the series ‘Dopesick’ or ‘Painkiller’, the opioid crisis in the US in the 1990s is discussed here. However, the trailer suggests that it will be a lot wilder and more cynical here than in the aforementioned productions, because it certainly brings back memories of Martin Scorsese’s unbridled drunken film ‘The Wolf Of Wall Street’. How Marvel star Chris Evans And Emily Blunt (“A Quiet Place”) in the painkiller world, you can find out for yourself starting today.
There are also suitable for Halloween with “The death sister“ Another gruesome horror addition. The film is a prequel to the Spanish horror hit ‘Véronica’ and follows the young novice Narcisa (Aria Bedmar), who starts working as a teacher at a girls’ school after the civil war in Spain. But dark forces seem to be wreaking havoc on the school grounds and Narcisa is soon plagued by visions of a sinister nun. What dark secret lies behind these silent walls?
Saturday and Sunday: No significant restarts
The week ends very quietly on Netflix. There will be no significant restarts on the streaming platform on Saturday and Sunday. So there is plenty of time to relax on the couch at home and watch the new start of the week. Or get into the Halloween spirit and browse the streaming giant’s horror department, because here you can find some genre gems – for example with the unpleasant Found Footage film ‘Creep’ or the long-indexed ‘Demons’.
