Students from 16 educational regions in the country participated in the First Reading Competition, which had the motto “Read to think”.
The winners who stood out in reading were Ezequías Navarro, from the David Institute, first place and a prize of B/.1,000; Erick Tejedor, from Colegio San Vicente de Veraguas, in second place and a prize of B/.500; and in third place, student Ester García from the Fermín Naudeau Institute, who received 300 balboas.
Students of the twelfth grade official schools and individuals from 16 educational regions, represented their schools in this competition that symbolizes Panama’s relationship with the United States with sentimental, emotional and historical value.
Ezequías Navarro expressed how good it is that a competition of this magnitude has been launched, because it exercises the mind and allows students to think critically and analyze texts and have a historical awareness of what happened before their generation.
Comprehensive reading tries to set goals such as vocabulary comprehension and speed, understanding and correct interpretation of what is read.
Students must learn the meaning of many words and remember that inference also occurs at the sentence and paragraph level and that all these goals are closely related.
It was an interesting initiative because of the experience that each of the participants gained in this first competition, commented Deputy Director of Education Victoria Tello.
Fact
