If you have ever met in your life If you’ve clicked through a list of the biggest movie mistakes of all time, chances are you’ve seen this image before: Brad Pitt in blood-speckled armor as Achilles in Wolfgang Petersen’s historical blockbuster “Troy” (2004), above which a plane clearly moves through the sky.

Now the film is set around 1250 BC, i.e. about 3153 years before the airplane was invented – so the scene would really have earned its place among the greatest mistakes in cinema history. But in corresponding YouTube error compilations, which conspicuously never include the full scene but always just the same still image, viewers seem confused for good reason: “I didn’t even notice the plane?” says a user in one Collection video with (alleged) film errors from “Troy”. “Where is that damn plane???” another wonders.
Put ‘Troy’ in the scene in question – and you won’t notice anything unusual. And certainly not an airplane! (Check on Netflix, where the film is currently included in the subscription)

If you do a little research you will come across several sites all linking to a Photoshop competition called “Director’s Cut 3”, which was hosted in 2004 by a now defunct website called worth1000.com (ca here read). A user named uputra81 is said to have submitted the fake plane and ended up in eighth place. From there the image probably spread continuously, ended up in a large number of film error forums and was also brought up again and again in various articles.
But that’s not all: even without an airplane you won’t find the image in the film. It is most likely a set photo, but it could easily pass for a film still and was therefore targeted by the resourceful manipulator. The case will probably no longer be able to be reconstructed exactly, but the fact is: The airplane mistake that even made the famous water bottle of “Game of Thrones“If it was going to eclipse, it never happened!
