Since there has been a real race for tickets for their current tour and the accompanying film has already broken records, it is clear: Taylor Swift is probably the biggest pop star of our time – and a large part of this is thanks to their incredibly dedicated fans, who call themselves ‘Swifties’ and would do almost anything to ensure their idol is successful.
And she has many famous fans too: numerous film stars have been spotted during concerts on her extensive ‘Eras’ tour, including Emma Watson, Nicole Kidman, Laura Dern, Ethan Hawke, Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence.
But one was even ahead of all the others and even puts a Swiftie or two to shame with his praise: Paul Schrader, Author of Taxi Driver and acclaimed director of films such as First Reformed, The Card Counter and Master Gardener (which together form the so-called Man In A Room trilogy).
Not only does Schrader write and direct great films, most of which revolve around guilty male protagonists, he also regularly shares his opinions on Facebook. Most of his posts are about movies, but sometimes other topics are discussed: Taylor Swift for example!
Already in 2018 – well before the extreme hype surrounding the singer, who released her tenth studio album ‘Midnights’ a year ago – Schrader expressed his absolute desire to see Taylor Swift live. It is nothing less than the “essence of life force”.
On his 72nd birthday, Schrader’s dream finally came true: The filmmaker attended Swift’s stadium tour in honor of her album ‘Reputation’, promptly shared a selfie as proof and could barely contain his excitement. The post attracted a lot of attention – including from fellow directors such as Edgar Wright (“Baby Driver”), who in turn shared the post with his fans. This prompted Schrader to sing even more praises:
“There is no doubt about Taylor Swift,” the now 77-year-old wrotethrough ). “She is the light that gives meaning to each of our lives, the deity that makes existence possible and without which we would wander forever in desolate, unimaginable darkness.” Will Schrader also drop by Swift’s current tour, which offers fans a three-hour cross-section of her entire work? We’ll probably find out on Facebook.
