New in the cinema: The concert sensation of the year and Luc Besson in top form

What has been clear in the US for some time now has been causing fans in Germany headaches for a long time: Will Taylor Swift’s concert film “The Eras Tour” also shake up German cinemas? At the end of September there was finally the redeeming news: as part of special screenings, the concert film, which had already been hyped in advance in the United States, will also be shown in cinemas here. Major cinema chains such as UCI, Cinestar and CinemaxX announced this.

The show will also flicker across screens in this country, not on the Thursday cinema release day as usual, but a day late, on October 13, 2023. Will Taylor Swift’s cinema tour experience similar hype here as it did in the US? The singer managed to break a pre-sales record before the film was released. Even major Marvel blockbusters can’t keep up with the $26 million the theatrical release of the pop show grossed in pre-sales in just one day.

If you want to get a ticket for ‘The Eras’ tour at the cinema, you’ll have to dig a little deeper into your pockets than usual. The cinema chains uniformly charge €19.89 for adults and €13.13 for children for an entrance ticket. Strange prices, but there is a plausible explanation: ‘1989’ is the album title of a popular album by Taylor Swift and the singer’s favorite number is 13.

“DogMan”: Luc Besson at his best

If you don’t want to jump on the Taylor Swift hype train, “DogMan,” the latest film from directing legend Luc Besson, offers you a heavy counter-program. In our FILMSTARTS review The thriller just misses the title of a masterpiece and receives an excellent 4.5 out of 5 stars. Author Oliver Kube judges:

“Anselm – The rush of time”: Wim Wenders’ documentary highlight

The documentary “Anselm – The Rushing of Time” by Wim Wenders was also successful for us. In this film, the experienced director highlights the work of artist Anselm Kiefer and discusses his fascination with myth and history. In the FILMSTARTS review, the film receives a solid 4.5 out of 5 stars – the technical execution in particular is the highlight of the documentary for author Michael Meyns:
