“Mad Max: Fury Road” is one of the best action movies of all time. Movie buffs will likely never forget the experience of seeing the post-apocalyptic adrenaline rush on the big screen for the first time. As excited as you can be about George Miller’s hit, filming was anything but pleasant for Charlize Theron.
Theron, who played Furiosa in ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ and is the real star of the film, revealed how it was terrible in the book ‘Blood, Sweat and Chrome: The Wild and True Story of Mad Max: Fury Road’. working with Tom Hardy, who followed in Mel Gibson’s footsteps as Max Rockatansky. There weren’t just minor disagreements between the two stars. The argument between the two escalated unpleasantly.
In the book “Blood, Sweat And Chrome: The Wild and True Story of Mad Max: Fury Road”, which is about the making of the modern action classic, it is made clear that Tom Hardy was probably not the most pleasant person. The camera team describes him as “quite aggressive”. It ultimately went wrong because Theron and Hardy’s work ethics differed too much.
Theron, who had just become a mother, asked Hardy to arrive at the filming location on time – which he allegedly ignored. Theron then reportedly complained that “The Dark Knight Rises” star should be heavily fined for every minute he delayed the crew. When Hardy got wind of this, there was apparently provocation – and it probably went so far that Theron felt seriously threatened.
In ‘Blood, Sweat And Chrome’, the actress explained that the situation was quite scary: “I never knew what to expect. It was like walking on thin ice.” George Miller rejected the suggestion of giving Theron some kind of protector, much to the Furiosa actress’ dismay: “Miller should have trusted that no one would destroy his vision.” In the meantime, it’s not just the director who has shown up. Hardy is also remorseful. The latter reads: “The pressure was overwhelming at times. What Theron would have needed was a better, more experienced partner than me.”
Even though things didn’t exactly go smoothly behind the scenes, “Mad Max: Fury Road” turned out to be a real masterpiece. Screenwriter Kelly Marcel explains in the book that this is ultimately due to the fact that the two stars are simply “amazing powerhouses.” The energy Hardy and Theron unleashed on set flowed straight onto the screen.
