Deterrents in bed for men and women: bad breath, armpit sweating or cheesy feet.

Bad breath, armpit sweat or cheesy feet? I’m sorry but these are absolute killers in bed. This has now been confirmed by a representative study commissioned by Parship.ch. More than half of both genders consider poor hygiene and bad smells to be the biggest pleasure killers; women more often than men.

Daily stress (both genders agree on this) also inhibits pleasure. Opinions differ between genders on other issues. Men are much more annoyed by their colleagues’ passive sexual behavior. Women remember this when they have to do something they don’t want to do. Women also lose desire if their sexual partners are drunk or insensitive. Interesting: Menstruation is more uncomfortable for women than for men.

The most common pleasure killers

The most critical age group is between 40 and 49 years old: most of the pleasure killers are identified in this group, whether it is bad smell, lack of sensitivity or lack of emotion.

According to psychologist Dania Schiftan, there is a cure for disappointment in bed: “People who communicate about sex with the other person and talk openly about their preferences and expectations are much less likely to experience disappointment in bed.” Therefore, it is recommended to discuss intimate matters before the first physical contact. “If you actively guide the other person and show them what you like, you are much less likely to be misunderstood. You can also tell me what you liked later.

Your desire is my desire

The study’s authors further examined what men and women find to stimulate pleasure. 88 percent of men think feeling a woman’s desire works. Conversely, it works the same way for 78 percent of women.

According to Schiftan, you can actually learn to feel and increase pleasure more intensely. The psychologist recommends appropriate courses, therapies or consultations. “This can open new perspectives, whether you do it alone or as a couple.” Especially those who grew up apart can work on their sexuality and change it so they can become close again with their preferences or interests. Dania Schiftan: “For singles, this is also an opportunity to strengthen their self-confidence in sexuality and realize what their intimate desires are.”

The study was carried out by digital market and opinion research company Marketagent.com between 1-9 February 2023 on behalf of Parship.ch. 1,011 men and women aged 18 to 75 were studied in Switzerland; 978 of them had had sex before.
