According to official information from Château Mouton Rothschild, Erni’s painting was able to capture the bright, creative energy of Baron Philippe de Rothschild. Unfortunately, the 1987 Bordeaux vintage was not suitable for weather conditions. Wet and cold weather delayed flowering and grape ripening, but was replaced by fine autumn air and eventually the vintage was saved to some degree. However, many of Château Mouton Rothschild 1987’s 0.75 liter bottles may have passed their peak when it comes to drinking maturity.
But Jules W.’s magnum bottle is in excellent condition, including the fill level in the bottle neck. It may well be that wine still offers a certain amount of drinking pleasure. Selling can also be considered instead of opening the bottle. In selected specialist shops, the price of such a beautifully preserved magnum bottle in its original wooden box is currently between 800 and 1000 francs.
