There were almost 41,000 marriages in Switzerland last year. Getting married is still very popular and there is a huge 10 percent increase in 2021 compared to the previous year. Since every good wedding includes not only beautiful food but also exquisite wines, every bride and groom should definitely consider this issue when planning.

In addition to the question of which wines should be served on this special day, the number of bottles also plays a big role. So how many bottles should the wedding couple expect? Too few bottles look stingy, while too many bottles look wasteful or ostentatious. But don’t panic, you can plan correctly with our basic rule.

Half bottle of wine per wedding guest

While some guests easily consume an entire bottle of wine throughout the evening, others are content with a half-full toast glass. There will also be wedding guests who do not drink alcohol for religious or health reasons, or who do not enjoy alcoholic beverages in general.

For this reason, we recommend calculating an average of half a bottle of wine per person. Many wine suppliers also offer the option of taking back unopened bottles after the wedding and therefore not billing them. This can prevent the wedding couple and their invited guests from being left high and dry.
