Some secret details may be discovered in the “Star Wars” universe. Just think of ET’s delegation of alien cousins to the Coruscant Senate, Hans Solo’s Millennium Falcon in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, or the strange numbers on the back of a B1 battle droid in the battle at the end of “Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace”.
There are even more so-called Easter eggs to discover in the ‘Star Wars’ saga – and to find a really special one, you’ll have to pay close attention to the background of the image: If you stop at minutes 33 and 40 seconds of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, you will see a white capsule in the background:
This is a so-called EVA Pod from the sci-fi milestone “2001: A Space Odyssey” by Stanley Kubrick. The special thing about it: actually, on Kubrick’s orders, the capsules with gripping arms were to be destroyed, just like all the other props and sets from “2001”. Either a capsule was forgotten, or George Lucas and his team simply used a space capsule from the “2001” sequel, “2010” in Episode 1.
Of course, the EVA Pod hidden in the background of the image also serves as a kind of tribute, because the influence of ‘2001’ on other authors and filmmakers cannot be underestimated. Without him, the genre wouldn’t look the way it does today. And of course, ‘Star Wars’ wouldn’t have happened in this form either. With ‘2001’, Stanley Kubrick not only made one of the best films of all time, but perhaps also the most influential and important science fiction film of all time.
