The ‘La Espina’ competition in Nueva Gorgona

“La Espina” is a Panamanian folk dance in which two gentlemen compete for the affection of a lady.

This dance requires the participation of three members, who perform the basic steps, such as zapateo, brushing, walking, falling, twisting and turning, all within the drama of a duel between two gentlemen who face each other in their best performance to win the lady..

Each of them has the opportunity to present a choreography that maintains the essence of this dance independently and as a group.

And, this September 30, La Espina dance competition, organized by the Folkloric Ensemble Tradiciones Rítmicas de Mi Pueblo, in Nueva Gorgona (Western Panama).

1. Performance: Performed by 3 members, 2 gentlemen and 1 lady.

3. Choreography: The choreography must include a complete performance of the basic steps, the rest is up to you.

4. The essence of the dance: Dance “Trn” It’s a dance duel, so you have to see it on stage.

5. Presentation: Participants must present their dance, with a suitable song, with typical costumes and this point in the general evaluation.

The competition will be held from 11:00 a.m., on the sports field in front of the Nueva Gorgon Local Board. Three winners will be chosen.
