Dora M. Morgan: Love of painting, strokes and lines

With theirs to students sixth grade students, in 1997, organized a small exhibition at school, they were asked to draw canvas and the result was very attractive, from then on he began to love painting, and when he retired, he was left in doubt as to what he would do.

Morgan remembered Panama America that his first paintings were in the houses of his relatives, he saw them so beautiful that he gave them away, moreover, he explained that at the beginning he met Yamileth Fuentes, the owner art gallery and handicraftswhich encouraged her even more to explore this aspect and invited her to “Guaricha”a small gallery where she was fascinated by the works of different Kirikan painters.

At first of the first line of Morgana, a native of Puerto Armuelles (Chiriquí), were landscapes, but he found in ethnicities such as ngäbe, guna and buglé inspiration for his works, although he admitted that most of his paintings are from Afro-descendants and there are also some works erotic.

“I also really liked everything in Puerto Armuelles, painting the pier and the trains,” said Morgan, who specializes in acrylic on canvas and settled in Manchuila, Bugaba, 25 years ago.

In the years that the 70-year-old Morgan devoted himself to painting, he had the opportunity to exhibit his works independently and collectively, he received several certificates for cooperation, he was a judge at a competition in which the emblem of the Bugaba district was used. elected and soon returns to teaching, will be teaching a painting and craft course, topic is ngäbe.

He participated in the exhibition “Homage to the great masters and artists of Chirica”, “Tribute to the black ethnic group” (Manuel Amador Guerrero Gallery of the University of Panama), “There is a female soul in my brush” and her solo exhibition “Lines, strokes and color strokes with love”among others.

He currently has some of his paintings exhibited in Boquete Library and will start working on a new one collection dedicated to “train 723”. “It was the fastest train that pulled many wagons of bananas from the farm to the wharf,” explained the artist.

As for the workshop, it will last four weeks, on Saturdays in October.

Training

Dora M. Morgan completed elementary school at Tomás Armuelles School, Puerto Armuelles High School (secondary studies) and higher education at the Barú Regional University Center (Cruba) and Autonomous University of Chiriquí (Unachi)he studied elementary education in this upper house.
