Amazon Prime Video users will have to prepare for some changes in the future. The streaming giant is following Netflix and Disney+ and introducing an ad-funded subscription model. The price for this model (at least in the US) should match the current monthly amount customers pay for a subscription. In the US it is currently $14.99. Anyone who wants to take advantage of Amazon Prime Video’s ad-free offering in the future will have to pay an additional fee of $2.99 per month.
Currently we only have the specific figures for the American region. Since the model with advertising in films and series will also be introduced in Great Britain, Germany and Canada early next year and will also be expanded to France, Italy, Spain, Mexico and Australia during the year, it can be assumed that that we will soon have to pay more in this country to continue to use Prime’s streaming offers ad-free.
It is not yet known to what extent film and series fans will have to prepare in the future if they are not willing to pay an extra amount for the commercial-free version of the streaming service.
People have been experimenting with advertising for a long time
According to Amazon, these increases are necessary for ad-free use or ad revenue to continue investing in new content. Advertising is actually not unknown for Amazon Prime users, after all, the streaming service already shows clips for many series – this is usually just a spot that advertises its own productions.
Sports enthusiasts Prime Video viewers have had to deal with advertising for a long time. “Thursday Night Football” games broadcast on Amazon aired with commercial breaks in the United States. The halftime of the Champions League football matches was also interrupted by spotlights. A practice that will now also find its way into films and series.
