‘El Gordo y La Flaca’ reaches 25 years

El Gordo y La Flaca,” the longest-running show on Spanish-language television in the United States, turned 25 this Thursday, which it celebrated with a special broadcast from the city of Miami with all its hosts and guest artists.

In interviews for EFE, its drivers Lili Estefan and Raúl de Molina They agreed to identify the connection between them and the “authenticity” of what is seen on the screen as the “secret to the success” of their production.

“We never imagined that a program that started with two Cubans in Miami could become something that would last 25 years and still have very good ratings,” said Raúl de Molina.

De Molina “El Gordo” and Estefan “La Flaca” They have been hosting the program since its first broadcast on September 21, 1998.

“We really are like brothers. We followed each other through births, deaths, cancers, divorces and more, always open to the public.

Authenticity was key,” said Estefan. The program, which airs in the United States and Latin America, is characterized by combining news about the lives of celebrities with humorous sketches and live performances.

For Dayanara Torres, who in this phase serves as a placeholder card covering absences Estefan and De Molina“The continuity of the existence of the same drivers is very important for people.

“We are family and we are family,” said the former Miss Universe and a Puerto Rican artist.

The party in Miami, which was magnified by the duet Gente de Zona, was attended by artists such as Carlos Ponce and his wife, journalist and presenter Karina Banda, Mexican artist Ninel Conde, Cuban singer-songwriter Yotuel and artist and businessman Emilio Estefan. “

Legacy of El Gordo and La FlacIt goes beyond television. It is a program that symbolizes the resilience, brotherhood and steadfastness of the Latino community in the United States.

When they started, we were less than 35 million people, now we are almost HRK 70 million. We, Latin Americans, have grown with them in quantity and strength,” said Estefan.

Before the celebration in Miami, which was broadcast as part of the program, the cast of “El Gordo y La Flaca” had events to mark their 25 years in Disneyland (California) and in New York.

There is also a Dominican actress and model in the permanent lineup Clarissa Molina and Cuban host Roberto Rodríguez, as well as a special appearance by Venezuelan fashion commentator Daniela di Giacomo.

For Estefan i De Molina, this is just the beginning of their joint project. “Now that we are 25 years old, I want us to exist for another 25 years. If not on television, we will sneak in anywhere, but El Gordo y La Flaca will continue for a long time,” said De Molina.
