Today on TV: Bloody horror action with a hungry gigantic crocodile that hunts people

Huge animals with sharp teeth and unpredictable reactions exert enormous fascination on many film fans – the best example of this is still Steven Spielberg’s ‘Jaws’. Not a fish, but an equally bloodthirsty reptile causes fear and terror in the Australian horror film ‘Black Water: Abyss’.

“Black Water: Abyss” will be broadcast today, September 22, 2023 at 8:15 PM on Tele 5. If the date doesn’t suit you, you can purchase the FSK 16 title unabridged, without commercial breaks and in the original English language as a Blu-ray, DVD or video-on-demand.

The director was Andrew Traucki, who has extensive experience in the animal horror sector thanks to his productions of the popular shark shocker “The Reef” and its sequel “The Reef 2: Stalked”, which will be released in 2022, as well as the big cat thriller “The Jungle” .

The leading roles you can expect include Jessica McNamee from “Mortal Kombat,” Anthony Sharpe (“Blacklight”) and Luke Mitchell from the series hits “Marvel’s Agents Of SHIELD” and “Blindspot.”

“Black Water: Abyss” on Tele 5: that’s the story

A group of adventurous friends – Cash (Anthony Sharpe), Victor (Benjamin Hoetjes), Yolanda (Amali Golden), Eric (Luke Mitchell) and Jen (Jessica McNamee) – accidentally find a cave entrance in the middle of nowhere in Australian bushland. The young people like to discover. The attraction is great because the shaft has not yet been shown on any map and you can make a name for yourself as an explorer.

Today the weather service has announced a severe storm. But the ambitious Cash convinces the rest that it won’t be so bad and the quintet goes into depth. And underground they actually find a beautiful, natural hall of majestic proportions.

However, the joy about it does not last long. Because they will soon be in great danger. And not only because of the enormous masses of water that constantly flow in due to heavy rainfall and threaten to flood everything. They’re also stuck there with a huge crocodile…

A sequel and then not

If the first part of the title sounds familiar, you probably remember ‘Black Water’, which was released in 2007. Andrew Traucki was already in the director’s chair for this work, which is not particularly demanding but still entertaining in its own way, and also co-wrote the script.

“Black Water: Abyss” is now the official sequel to the survival shocker, which was mainly successful in production country Australia, but also in Europe and the US. But you really don’t have to have seen it to follow the story tonight. It is a so-called “standalone sequel” – that is, a sequel that stands on its own. There are some parallels in content, but there are no overlaps, neither in plot nor in characters.
