Michael Caine is a true Hollywood veteran. The British actor has appeared in more than 160 films. Including in some productions of director legend Christopher Nolan such as “Interstellar”, “Tenet” or “Prestige – Masters of Magic”. He is especially memorable as Batman butler Alfred Pennyworth alongside Christian Bale, who not only serves as the mental support of Gotham’s Dark Knight in Nolan’s dark comedy trilogy, but is also his moral compass.
Caine has now reached the remarkable age of 90. It’s only natural that Christopher Nolan’s favorite actor (the director has never worked with another actor so often) is thinking about ending his career. And apparently, this could happen soon. In an interview with Michael Caine made it clear that “In full blossom“could have been his last film.
‘I’m a bit retired now’
When asked about his future, Caine responded interviewthat he was “somehow” already retired and then it became very clear: “I’m now bloody 90 years old and I can’t walk properly anymore […]“.
Already in the film ‘In Full Bloom’, some scenes were a tough physical challenge for him and he was able to shoot many scenes only once: ‘They gave me a very good stick and I could play scenes that required it. I shot a lot of scenes just once and then I was just done.
Nevertheless, he had a great time on set and especially fell in love with his character: “I just loved the character of Bernie. It’s just incredible and so beautifully written.”
Is ‘In Full Bloom’ really Michael Caine’s last film?
In the drama “In Full Bloom,” Michael Caine plays World War II veteran Bernard Jordan, who escapes from a nursing home to attend the 70th anniversary of D-Day in France.
Only time will tell if this role will actually be Caine’s last and if he will give up his acting career for good. At least he is currently listed on IMDb in the cast of the magical sequel “The Incredibles 3,” where he is once again listed in the role of the villainous Arthur Tressler. However, it has now been more than six years since the last “The Incredibles 2” and it is seriously doubtful whether this film will be released at all.
If you want to experience Michael Caine in theaters again, mark your calendars for November 23, 2023, because that’s the day ‘In Full Bloom’ opens in German cinemas.
