Made by ETH students: Swiss electric car breaks world record

The racing car of the AMZ team with Kate Maggetti broke the world record at the military airfield in Dübendorf.

The vehicle named “mythen” had a range of 12.3 meters, ETH Zurich announced on Tuesday.

The previous world record of 1.461 seconds set by a team from the University of Stuttgart is more than a third behind, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich announced on Tuesday. The record was broken at Dübendorf ZH military airport.

The vehicle weighs only 140 kilograms and has a power of 326 hp. To prevent the car from taking off when started at high speed, students developed a type of vacuum cleaner that pulls the car to the ground.

The car was designed and built by around 30 students from the Academic Motorsport Association Zurich (AMZ). AMZ broke the acceleration world record for the third time after 2014 and 2016.
