Mayor Mario Branda said that the Federal Folk Music Festival is a good opportunity for the capital of the canton of Ticino to introduce itself to the whole of Switzerland. Many hotels between Bellinzona and Lugano are already fully booked.
Branda said it was important for Ticino to be able to “host” this festival because Switzerland is a country with will. And this nation of will works with the guts rather than the head. Therefore, a music festival is ideal to connect different parts of the country.
Simultaneously with the 14th Federal Folk Music Festival, the Swiss Folk Music Society (VSV) is celebrating its 60th anniversary. As VSV head of headquarters Ralph Janser explained at the media conference in Bellinzona, VSV was founded in Sachseln OW in 1963.
The association grew out of the Zurich-Central Switzerland Dance and Entertainment Music Association, founded in 1958. Since then, the association, which has 9,000 members, is dedicated to promoting and developing Swiss folk music.
More than 400 concerts are planned for the festival, which will start on Thursday, September 21. These take place in a total of 13 stages. OK President Andrea Bersani said that never before have so many Ticino formations participated in the Federal Folk Music Festival. Federal Councilor Ignazio Cassis is expected to wrap up the four-day event on Sunday.
Bersani joked that he hoped airports would not also be closed after the accident at the Gotthard Base Tunnel and the collapse of the ceiling in the Gotthard car tunnel. It is important that “German and French-speaking Swiss friends” can reach Ticino despite all the obstacles.
